Getting your mind right first before you start messing around with these tools is, you know, a very critical part in actually getting that output that you want. The same way you have to train and finetune AI, you have to train and finetune yourself. You have to finetune your own mind. So that way you can tell AI, you know, exactly what you want and create something amazing. So there should be a dual finetuning process of the AI and one’s mind.

Be curious

Being curious is essential for you to thrive as an artist and definitely to thrive in AI. So, in being curious, everything starts with the prompt. And, a prompt is essentially a question, or statement that you’re going to be inputting into this tool, whatever tool that you decide to use. These tools can do so much, but it all depends on, like, what type of prompts that you put into it. You’re only as good as the question that you ask. Ask big questions. Ask unorthodox questions. Questions that you wouldn’t think to ask. If I’m trying to develop a strategy for 2025, like, “What is King Willonius’ strategy for 2025 to make a billion dollars?” And I ask the questions. I’m like, “Well, why did you choose this output versus something else?” I’ll ask ChatGPT to generate prompts for me. You know, if I’m like, well, “What type of prompts would you create, Chat?” You just keep asking it questions or prompts, and then you, kind of, just in the process of asking it a bunch of prompts, you end up finding like a whole new way of doing things and you end up getting very interesting outputs.

Embrace failure

You want to embrace failure. Success is great. Like, that makes you feel good and everybody likes to cheer you on, but failure’s where you really have those breakthroughs. I really kind of condition myself to think that everything is just feedback. I like the term feedback versus failures. As a stand up comedian, you want to fail on stage because that’s, you get information from that. What did I do wrong? Was it my body language? Was it my tone? You know, same thing with AI. When it doesn’t give you what you want, try to figure out, like, why is that? That’s actually the fun part is, like, trying to see if we can push this thing to its limits and what we can actually create by failing.

One of the more interesting things that an AI tends to do is hallucinate. And that’s when it essentially kinda goes off the rails, like if you’re using an AI music model and you want a country song and then it gives you a heavy metal song and you’re like, oh, okay. I didn’t I didn’t ask for that. I like to embrace the hallucinations. I actually try to do things to try to make it hallucinate because I find find that that’s like the sweet spot. Like, you end up uncovering happy accidents. It goes into this creative space that you really couldn’t prompt for. And, a lot of times, like, you end up uncovering something really cool when it hallucinates. So, the things that might come off as failures end up being some of the best things in the world.

Practice lifelong learning

Being obsessed with learning and being a lifelong learner is super important when it comes to AI. You have to educate yourself. You have to study the craft, study the discipline. Any discipline in life that you choose to go into, absorb as much as you can. And then use these tools to take you to the next level. The more you know about music theory, and instruments, and songwriting, the great artists that have come before us and that are still here, the better music you’ll create. Same thing goes for making AI films. The more you know about cinematography and acting, you’ll just make for a better film. If you’re starting a business or you’re running a business, the more you can know or learn about business, the more you know about the startup world or VCs or marketing, the better the output will be. And that’s why I think the great thing about AI is it allows us to do so much more, so it makes you want to learn more. In order to keep creating amazing things, I have to refine my palette. You can’t discount education. Knowledge, as they say, knowledge is power. So, the more you know, the more you grow and the better things that you’ll create.
