The photo above is another by the American photographer and social advocate Lewis W. Hine, whose work often documented working children. The youngster above, barefoot but otherwise fairly well-adorned, probably shouted headlines that day detailing events in war-torn Europe. The theatre advertisement to his right reads “Oct. 24,” only a few days after the Battle of Warsaw ended in German defeat. A shadow slips into the picture from the bottom right, one which you imagine probably belonged to Hine himself.
