CIA Supports Study to Control Global Climate

In a previous post on Big Think, Ramez Naam made a provocative argument for geoengineering or climate engineering as a “plan B” solution for climate change. 


While some dismiss this out of hand as a crazy idea, the government doesn’t think so. In fact, the CIA is partially funding a study by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) to investigate the possibility of a large-scale intervention in the Earth’s climatic system in order to stop climate change.

This was first reported in Mother Jones. As the magazine points out, revelations about the $630,000 study will be a boon to conspiracy theorists, there is also a growing realization that weather modification projects are not only possible, but could also be an affordable solution.
