The United States has formally asked Switzerland to extradite Roman Polanski, the Hollywood film director who fled sentencing for unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1971, nearly four weeks after he was arrested at America’s request upon arrival in Switzerland. The Swiss Justice Department said it would make a decision on extradition following a hearing and consultation with Polanski’s lawyer. The 76-year-old Oscar winning director, who holds dual French and Polish citizenship, has not entered America since he fled the country 32 years ago after being found guilty of child sex crimes. The US authorities had until the end of November to make the extradition request, reported MSNBC.
