Question: How Do You Handle A Touchy Subject?
Richard Price: I’ll do anything in my power not to be PC short of being insulting. PC has its own repressiveness just as much as any kind of right-wing insensitivity. When I’m writing about people that it might seem should be the territory of the people you’re writing about if I’m writing about black characters or Hispanic characters. The only obligation of a writer whose job is to imagine lives not your own is to make the characters as three dimensional as possible. If you can do that, there’s no one off limits.
