Christopher Reeve on Heroes

“I think a hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. They are the real heroes, and so are the families and friends who have stood by them.” Christopher Reeve would have been 62-years-old yesterday. Next month will mark the ten-year anniversary of his death.

Christopher Reeve (1952-2004) was most famous during his lifetime as the actor to have portrayed Superman in a string of blockbusters from 1978 to 1987. After a horse riding injury in 1995 made him a quadriplegic, Reeve became a visible advocate for people with spinal-cord injuries and a staunch supporter of stem cell research. He died suddenly of cardiac arrest on October 10, 2004.
