This week the physicist Stephen Hawking announced he was joining a number of other scientists in boycotting The Israeli Presidential Conference in Jerusalem as a protest of Israeli’s policies toward Palestinians.

This has led some critics to charge Hawking with hypocrisy, since the scientist, who suffers from motor neurone disease, uses Israeli technology as part of a computer system that helps him function and communicate.

“I suggest if he truly wants to pull out of Israel he should also pull out his Intel Core i7 from his tablet,” said the Israeli human rights attorney Nitsana Darshan-Leitner.
