Speak to Inspire

Leading people is far more effective when they are excited about the journey ahead, as opposed to being pushed by directives; instead, we should inspire them with purpose and stories, according to Nancy Duarte, CEO of Duarte Inc.

It’s infinitely easier to lead people who know where you’re taking them and are excited to go there than to cattle-prod them into action. But too often, when announcing a new initiative or trying to facilitate change, we just launch into a series of directives. People aren’t moved by directives, says Duarte Inc. CEO Nancy Duarte. Instead, we seek purpose and rely on stories to connect us with it.
